Richard Cohen, Real Life Person That Is Completely Serious: (from The Huffington Post) Last night, Rachel Maddow interviewed Richard Cohen, the author of Coming Out Straight. Which is an actual book about 'overcoming' homosexuality. All you need, apparently, is a tennis racquet and CUDDLING WITH A MEMBER OF THE SAME SEX. Science. Unfortunately, this would be much funnier if it wasn't being used by the Ugandan government for support of their proposed bill to make homosexuality punishable by death, which is also something that is actually happening in real life in 2009 on this planet. Right now. Videos below, Readers.

this sounds like the definition of a morally bankrupt society. Are the members of the legislation educated? I have to ask, how could they be, if they're trying to pass things like this?

Uganda relies on foreign support for 40% of its budget, and while government spokesperson Fred Opolo calls this "democracy in action" and says that Uganda is "debating its destiny," saying furthermore that it would be outrageous for other countries to cut aid, I'm not sure I agree.

What can be done? Leverage the government? Get all the foreign sponsors to threaten to cut aid if this goes through? It seems like it would work. This is outrageous.
